June 19 - Website is done (finally)

As of today, 19 June 2026, I have finally finished fiddling with this godforsaken website.

The idea to make an independent website came to me one evening. In a rare moment where I wasn't doing anything with my hands, I let my mind think of all kinds of things, which is where the thought of getting back into writing popped up.

Despite having graduated with a writing degree, I made very little use of it beyond applying for the job I currently have (which, unfortunately, is not creative in nature). Ever since I finished working on my thesis project, a short story collection complete with with a 30+ page document explaining every little comma and period, I've lost my taste in writing stories.

I think a part of me believed that the only stories worth writing were stories that had meaning, something meticulously thought out without wasting a single word. These stories had to have commentary, some higher purpose beyond me. Obviously this mindset was exhausting, as well as paralyzing. Every time I would get an idea for a story, I would think about it too deeply, until I eventually discard the idea simply because it served no higher purpose beyond just being a story.

But so many people around me were also writers, and seeing them go for their creative pursuits made me feel guilty, until eventually I had to sit down and really think: Why did I get into writing in the first place?

I wrote about that in my thesis project, but I seemed to have lost the path along the way. I wrote because I loved being a storyteller, because my head is always buzzing with a thousand ideas that fizzle and pop out of existence the moment I try to put my finger on it. A storyteller didn't need to be some kind of prophet, or politician -- if meaning was what I wanted, then it would show itself in the text without my forcing it.

So I decided to make a website, and to try to write something every month to post on it. The easy way would've been to open another Tumblr blog, or even a Substack, but the idea of having a small corner on the internet as my own personal archive was a lot more appealing -- especially as a lover of customization.

Now, maybe about 2 weeks or so into this project (I've lost track of the time I sunk into this thing), I've finally run out of excuses not to start writing.

I've populated the site with 3 stories I've done in the past for the sake of testing code, but all stories posted here from this day forth will be entirely new. I'll try not to care too much about the quality, after all this is mostly a personal project to write for writing's sake, but I'll also try my best not to post absolute slop.

A special thank you to my good friend Alex (I have many Alexes in my life but you know who you are) for helping build the foundation of this website based on this template from Itinerae.
